The Detroit Justice Center mourns the loss of Charles J. Ogletree Jr., a beloved law professor and civil rights attorney. Ogletree served as a mentor to many at Harvard Law School. He defended Anita Hill during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. He later went on to file a suit on behalf of the survivors of the Tulsa Massacre. Although that suit was dismissed, Ogletree showed us a vision of fighting for racial justice at a time when few had heard about the atrocities in Tulsa. We at the Detroit Justice Center aspire to his level of commitment to intergenerational practice and fighting for civil rights.
