Illegal and unfair evictions and foreclosures have been rampant in the city of Detroit. However, Detroiters and activists have rallied around families who unfortunately have been affected by these atrocities. Earlier this month, protests took place opposing the police’s involvement in these afflictions against the Detroit community.

The Detroit Justice Center has long fought for the housing rights of Detroit residents with our legal services and advocacy. “We want accountability and real action,” as our staff attorney Joe McGuire recently stated in the Detroit Free Press. “So they (landlords) make up a lie that their tenant is a squatter,” McGuire said.”Unfortunately, what has happened is that the police will just take the landlord’s word for it, and kick the person out of the house without any legal process.”
