Before joining Detroit Justice Center, Joe McGuire worked as a staff attorney at Michigan Legal Services for five years, providing legal assistance to Wayne County residents. Joe was awarded the Spirit of Detroit Award by the City of Detroit for his work helping clients avoid property tax foreclosure.

Joe went to Wayne State University Law School where he was a member of Wayne Law’s student chapter of the ACLU. He gained a B.A. from Wayne State University.Joe is part of the housing justice activism group Detroit Eviction Defense, which has been fighting evictions and promoting the housing rights of Detroit residents since 2011.
