Black people’s hardfought liberation from slavery was only the beginning of the fight for true freedom. Each year, Juneteenth has historically been marked as a time to come together, make bold demands of what would come next, and call for a radical reorganization of society.
We know we can’t build truly just cities without abolishing the police, who continue to impoverish, criminalize, and cage Black people.
This Juneteenth, we call on our community to resource the Detroit Justice Center as we work to keep Detroiters out of prisons and jails and help them build up the new infrastructures that will make prisons and policing obsolete.
Join an ecosystem of organizations and individuals redistributing wealth in honor of Juneteenth to help us carry forward the unfinished promise of abolition.
DJC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 82-2295339. All donations made to DJC are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
As individuals, we belong to powerful networks that we can mobilize to support the causes we care about. Give your friends, family, and the folks in your community a way to participate in our movement to end mass incarceration by organizing a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign.
Each day, our team fights to reunite families torn apart by the carceral system, lift barriers to employment and housing, and strengthen communities by supporting small businesses and land trusts. We’re building a more equitable and just Detroit, and we need your help.
If you’re moved to directly support us, you can also make a personal gift in honor of Juneteenth.
