Research shows that cash bail programs are not necessary or effective at fulfilling their stated purpose. Rather, what has been proven is that cash bail programs end up punishing poor people for being poor, increasing the rates of incarceration for Black and Brown people, undermining the notion of “innocent until proven guilty,” making our communities less safe, and costing taxpayers billions of dollars unnecessarily. No one should be in jail simply because they can’t afford to buy their way out of the system.
Join us and our allies at Michigan Families for Fair Care, ABC for Justice, and Michigan Liberation, Silent Cry and the Michigan Chamber For Reproductive Justice as we host a conversation on why cash bail programs should be eradicated, how you can help advocate for the kinds of policies that actually bring safety to our communities. You’ll hear from impacted returning citizens, local advocates, and meet concerned citizens just like you who want to see real positive change in Michigan for all! Come with your questions!
