Alexandria Hughes is a researcher at Wayne State Universities Center of Behavioral Health and Justice. She’s also heavily involved in community activism focused on criminal justice, educational freedom, and mental health. Previously, she worked at Michigan Liberation as a mental health organizer, where she built strategic relationships with healthcare professionals, educators, and members of local government to develop an ecosystem for non-carceral mental health resources accessible to community members. From 2020 – 2021 she organized various protests focused on ending police brutality of Black people and civic engagement events in suburban communities with groups like Livonia Equity and Anti-racism network, as well as Accountability for Dearborn and more.

Alexandria currently serves as a board member of the Michigan Coalition of Human Rights and is currently working on her masters in social work degree at Wayne State University. Her passion and interest in criminal justice, educational freedom and mental health stems from her personal experiences during her upbringing.
