Safiya is a Paralegal in the Legal Services and Advocacy Practice (LSAP). She is also a lover of people, civil rights advocate, proud elder sister of seven siblings, a wife, and mother to her toddler son.

Prior to joining DJC, Safiya worked as a litigation paralegal in employment law, serving clients who experienced discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and/or wrongful termination based on their race, gender, national origin, or disability. She also worked as a claims analyst at a civil rights law firm, assisting hundreds of Michiganders falsely accused of fraud, recoup economic damages in the Michigan Supreme Court case, Bauserman v. UIA.

Safiya also spent time serving as a PPO court advocate, providing legal support, crisis intervention, and safety planning to survivors of intimate partner violence and sex trafficking. She obtained her B.A. in Social Relations & Policy at Michigan State University, where she also minored in Philosophy & Law. Safiya is currently a second-year macro MSW student at Boston University, School of Social Work. She is fiercely passionate about the civil, human, and economic rights owed to every individual.
