SUMMARY:MDRJN Book Launch!
DESCRIPTION:Join the Metro Detroit Restorative Justice Network (MDRJN) in launching our first book\, “Unraveling Harm\, Cultivating Safety”! \nThe Metro Detroit Restorative Justice Network (MDRJN) is a special project of the Detroit Justice Center (DJC) that seeks to develop community-led responses to harm that do not rely on the police or prison systems. This project is grounded in a growing abolitionist movement in Detroit\, which advocates for alternatives that focus on healing and accountability outside the carceral system. By gathering the perspectives of Metro Detroit residents—particularly Black residents—MDRJN’s research aims to identify what resources and systems are needed to address harm and accountability in ways that reflect the lived experiences and desires of the community. The findings from MDRJN’s research are being released in a book titled “Unraveling Harm\, Cultivating Safety” that illuminates potential avenues for restorative justice in SE Michigan. \nWe are so proud of the work that our Network has completed in just 5 short years — and want to gather to celebrate with you\, our community! Please join us for our book launch\, and to honor Angel McKissic\, our founder! Gather and connect\, celebrate\, and break bread with us!

Our Community Legal Advocate\, Lauren Thomas\, will be speaking about DJC’s work as part of Birmingham Unitarian Church’s (BUC) Religious Justice Series. \nThe mission of the BUC Racial Justice program is to support congregants in developing and living out an intentionally anti-racist identity.
